The Baltimore Orioles are off to a dreadful start. Through 46 games, the team is 15-31 and has the second-worst record in the American League.
They are also at the bottom of the AL East. The team even fired manager Brandon Hyde after their rough start.
The main problem for Baltimore has been their pitching, or lack thereof. One pitcher in particular struggled quite a bit after signing late in free agency.
Kyle Gibson was signed to a one-year, $5.25 million deal, but his struggles ultimately led to his time with the organization coming to an end.
"Kyle Gibson clears waivers and is officially released after just 4 starts with the Orioles," Bob Nightengale posted on X.

Gibson had been designated for assignment not long after he made his 2025 debut with the Orioles. In the four starts he made, the veteran right-hander went 0-3 with a 16.78 ERA.
The 37-year-old was with the Orioles in 2023 and left for the St. Louis Cardinals the following offseason.
He performed well with St. Louis, going 8-8 with a 4.24 ERA in 30 starts before the Cardinals declined his club option for 2025.
Gibson was an All-Star with the Texas Rangers back in 2021, which was his best season. That year, he went 10-9 with a 3.71 ERA between Texas and the Philadelphia Phillies.
It will be interesting to see if Gibson ultimately ends up somewhere else later on this year. Perhaps a contending team with a desperate need for starting pitching will take a flyer.
