The NFL’s controversial “tush push” play will remain legal in 2025 — but not without serious opposition.

The Green Bay Packers spearheaded a proposal to ban the quarterback push play, made famous by the Philadelphia Eagles, only to fall just short.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the final vote was 22-10 — just two shy of the 24 votes required to pass.

The irony? NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport pointed out that the final vote tally was the same as the Eagles’ 22-10 playoff win over the Packers this past January. “Philly hangs on,” Rapoport wrote, referencing both outcomes.

Following the failed vote, the Eagles wasted no time celebrating. The team posted a 26-minute YouTube video composed entirely of tush push plays — a not-so-subtle victory lap that landed right after the news broke.

While the NFL had reportedly discussed the play’s safety concerns and potential competitive imbalance, not enough owners were ready to eliminate it — at least not yet.

And the story doesn’t end here. In what’s sure to be a highly anticipated rematch, the Packers will host the Eagles in Week 10 on Monday Night Football at Lambeau Field. With the tush push still legal — and fresh in everyone’s minds — the stakes just got a little more personal.

Green Bay may have come up short in the boardroom, but they’ll have a shot to push back on the field later this fall.
