Former Broncos star predicted to be cut by new team before ever playing a down image

The Denver Broncos switched up their running back room a bit this offseason, opting to let Javonte Williams walk in free agency and they replaced him in the second round of the draft with UFC running back R.J. Harvey.

Williams signed a one-year, $3.5 million deal with the Dallas Cowboys, a team starving for running back help after also losing Rico Dowdle, a 1,000-yard rusher last season, to free agency.

But Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report doesn't see it being a blissful stay for Williams in Dallas. While compiling a list of the best players on each team that could be cut before the 2025 season kicks off, he lists Williams for the Cowboys.

"The Dallas Cowboys signed running back Javonte Williams to a one-year, $3 million deal this offseason but could easily move on if he doesn't outperform Miles Sanders, Deuce Vaughn and/or rookies Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah in training camp.

Cutting Williams, who averaged just 3.7 yards per carry with the Broncos last season, would save Dallas $2 million in cap space, wrote Knox.

That isn't the most daunting running back room to be competing in, but Broncos fans know that Williams may not have much left to offer. Once one of the most exciting prospects on the team, a knee injury in 2022 completely destroyed Williams as a productive player in the league.

Prior to that injury, Williams had an explosive burst and would carry tacklers for extra yardage. After the injury, that burst was all but gone, he wasn't tough to tackle and he averaged nearly a full yard less per carry. He just wasn't the same player and it's difficult to imagine that he ever will be again.

Broncos fans will likely be pulling for Williams to succeed, even if it is in Dallas, but it probably won't come as a huge shock if the prediction made here by Knox comes true.
