It is finally time for some positive Washington Wizards news. Two of the team’s rookies were named to the NBA All-Rookie Team. An honor given to the ten best rookies of the season. Alex Sarr was named a First Team All-Rookie while Bub Carrington narrowly made the Second Team.
This is great news for a Wizards organization that hasn’t had much to cheer for for a long while.
Sarr, the second overall pick in last year’s draft, had a promising rookie campaign. The French center/power forward showed flashes of two-way potential, contributing on both ends for a rebuilding Wizards squad.
Sarr ended the season playing (and starting) in 67 games. For rookies, he finished second in scoring, averaging 13 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. He was relatively inefficient, shooting only 39.4% from the field.
Bub Carrington was selected 14th overall by the Portland Trail Blazers and immediately traded to the Washington Wizards.
As one of the youngest players in the draft at 18, Carrington showed solid pick-and-roll play, midrange scoring, and strong passing instincts in his rookie year.

Carrington played all 82 games and started in 57. He averaged 9.8 points, 4.4 assists, and 4.2 rebounds on 34% shooting from three.
The Wizards are hoping both Sarr and Carrington can build on their rookie-year performances. As one of the youngest teams in the league, they are now rostering two players with recent All-Rookie selections, a great sign for a young rebuilding roster.
