Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty will not compete in the Preakness Stakes, opening the door for another horse to become a champion at the second leg of the 2025 Triple Crown.
There will be three Kentucky Derby participants in the Preakness Stakes field: Journalism, Sandman and American Promise. Journalism, the runner-up at the Kentucky Derby, owns the best odds heading into the race and will start at the No. 2 post.

The Black-Eyed Susan, which features 3-year-old fillies, will be the main attraction on Friday. The post time for that race is approximately 5:44 p.m. ET. The Preakness Stakes is expected to begin around 6:50 p.m. ET on Saturday.
