The Jacksonville Jaguars made a major investment in two-way superstar Travis Hunter during the 2025 NFL Draft. Naturally, that’s led to widespread speculation in the media world: Does Hunter have the technical chops to be a full-time NFL wide receiver?

Clips of Hunter running routes and catching passes during rookie minicamp have gone viral on social media in recent weeks, with fans and bloggers putting on their analyst caps and dropping hot takes. The reviews so far haven’t drawn five stars from the keyboard warriors online, but thankfully, the real experts returned to the Miller Electric Center for Jacksonville’s first official organized team activities (OTA) this week.

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence was on hand Monday, renewing his connection with Brian Thomas Jr. while throwing his first passes to newcomers like Hunter and free agent addition Dyami Brown. On Jacksonville’s lightning-rod rookie, Lawrence addressed Hunter’s route running chops and unmatched energy after their first official OTA session together:

“He’s got a lot of juice,” Lawrence said of Hunter. “He can run all day, a lot of energy. I love it, good energy, always dapping guys up, bringing juice every day. Like I said, high motor, can just go. He’s like a kid, just runs around all day. He doesn’t get tired, it seems like. You can’t have enough of that.

“As far as just talent,” Lawrence added, “it kind of speaks for itself. Ball skills, run after the catch, he’s very explosive. I didn’t realize how explosive he was in and out of cuts. You know, he’s impressive to watch, and we’ve gotten to connect a couple times. It’s only going to get better and better. We’ve only worked together for a couple days now, so we’ve got some time to really dial in on the details.”

It’s easy for fans to see random clips online and go a little overboard, especially in mid-May, but the notion that Hunter’s struggling with his route running since joining the Jaguars has obviously been overblown by social media click farmers.

Random clips from practice lack context, and the man in charge of distributing the football doesn’t sound concerned in the least.
