Raptors have a wild history with NBA Draft’s No. 9 pick that matters after lottery results image

The Toronto Raptors didn't catch a break in Monday night's NBA Draft Lottery, at least by a casual onlooking.

They wound up with the No. 9 pick, not exactly Cooper Flagg territory.

But what if we told you No. 9 is a sneaky-good place for the Raptors to wind up.

Toronto, as a franchise, has picked ninth in three drafts.

The selections:

  • Tracy McGrady (1997)
  • DeMar DeRozan (2009)
  • Jakob Poeltl (2016)

McGrady and DeRozan are two of the greatest scorers ever.

Poeltl has evolved into a strong NBA center.

Now it's up to the Raptors to try and add to that special list.

The only other Raptors spot in contention from their past is No. 4, where they landed both Chris Bosh and Scottie Barnes. Sounds like fun.
