Journalism found his crown atop Baltimore's muddiest thoroughfare.
The 3-year-old colt fell short of glory at Churchill Downs, seeing his chances for a Kentucky Derby title turn to ashes at the hands — or rather, legs — of Sovereignty.
With his staunchest adversary on the mend for Saturday's Preakness Stakes, Journalism left nothing to chance. The Umberto Rispoli-manned steed raced into glory at the 150th Preakness, besting Gosger in his final paces to secure the title at the Race for the Black-Eyed Susans.

Journalism, who entered the bout with even odds to claim victory, looked worse for the wear in the early portions of the race. He fell way behind the pace set by Gosger and Clever Again, dropping as far as fifth.
But horse racing is more marathon than sprint. Journalism, fueled by Rispoli's stewardship, jostled with other horses and found his rhythm as the race wore on, eventually bursting beyond all comers, including Gosger, to claim gold.
The Sporting News tracked live updates from the Preakness Stakes. Below are highlights, final results and more as nine of the fastest steeds in the world competed for glory atop one of horse racing's most notable landmarks.
Who won the Preakness Stakes in 2025?
Journalism took home the crown at the 2025 Preakness, besting Gosger in the final half-mile of the race to secure a momentous victory.
Gosger and Clever Again impressed in opening portions of the race, jostling for first and second atop the muddy Pimlico surface. Gosger eventually trotted beyond his adversary, dancing in open air as he approached the finish line. Journalism, the Kentucky Derby runner-up, looked unlikely to catch the 3-year-old colt after an unenviable start.
But he found a second gear as the race wore on, turning yards into feet into inches and eventually bursting beyond his weary foe. The Umberto Rispoli-manned steed held off Gosger at the line before being dressed in Black-Eyed Susans in victory circle.

7:08 p.m.: Gosger has surpassed Clever Again for first. He's all on his own at the front. It looks like he's going to do it! But alas! Journalism has burst all the way back! He bursts past his foes and trots beyond Clever Again in the final portion of the race. And the victor is...Journalism! What a run for the-race favorite! What a race!

7:00 p.m.: The final pre-race odds have Journalism, not Clever Again, pegged as the favorite. The Kentucky Derby runner-up is tipped for a strong showing at tonight's race. He's currently riding high with even odds.
6:45 p.m.: Among the most notable storylines from tonight's contest is this: Saffie Osborne, the rider of Heart of Honor, is looking to become the second-ever woman to ever win a Triple Crown race. If she were to land in the victory circle come the end of this year's Preakness, she'd join Julie Krone (winner of 1993 Belmont Stakes) in racing immortality.
