The Texas Rangers had hopes of reaching the playoffs and competing for another World Series after missing the playoffs last season, a year after winning the championship.
However, to begin the 2025 Major League Baseball season, the Rangers are 17-8 and in fourth place in the AL West. It’s been a frustrating start for the Rangers, and now MLB insider Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report named Adolis García as a potential trade candidate if Texas doesn’t turn it around.
“García's run through the 2023 postseason—particularly what he did to Houston en route to ALCS MVP—was legendary. But could the Rangers trade him away for more of a sure thing at closer and/or a starting pitcher better than Patrick Corbin?… García was barely a replacement-level player for the Rangers last season, and he hasn't gotten out to a great start this year. His four homers and four stolen bases look good at first glance, but his .644 OPS is troublesome enough to potentially consider a change.”

Garcíais in the final year of his two-year, $14 million deal and has one more season of control before being a free agent in 2027. Although the slugger was a key part of the Rangers winning the World Series, Texas has other options to replace him and could try and trade him to get something back.
Miller believes a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers makes sense, and they could trade García for a pitcher, which is a need for the Rangers.
“As annoying as it may be to MLB fans outside of Los Angeles, the perfect trade partner here is probably the Dodgers. Michael Conforto has been a huge disappointment in left field, and the Dodgers have a half-dozen pitchers with more career saves than any arm currently in Texas,” Miller wrote.
García is hitting .217 with 4 home runs and 17 RBIs to begin the season. The slugging outfielder hit a career-high 39 home runs in 2023 when Texas won the World Series.
